People have different reactions when viewing the same scene. Some will focus on the colors, others on texture, patterns, geometric shapes, even characteristics of individual parts like lacy or opaque. This”selective viewing” is one reason photos from a gorgeous vacation view come back with an unnoticed dumpster or a power pole playing dominant roles; we “selected” those out when taking the photo. When I create an image, I try to capture the experience that first caught my attention. Sometimes that requires extremes, sometimes tenderness. It’s both a function of the physical image and my internal reaction. It’s not always what’s captured in a photo; though I start most images with a digital photo. It’s not always a clear message; it sometimes combines visual with emotion.
We'd love to sell you some art. That's one reason we designed this site. (Though the final push was people seeing some of our art and asking what else we had. We sell most of our art at Art Shows and Wine Festivals and can't bring every piece to every event. ) Eventually, we'll have ALL of our images on this site, so you can see everything we do. Well, we might not post the warts. : )

Bob Dickey "paints" with the computer. Starting with one of his original digital photos, he alters it in the computer to simulate the feeling he had when viewing the original scene. Finally, he prints onto heavy art paper or canvas with ultra chrome ink. The result is a museum quality work with archival durability.
Bob's art education has been informal and eclectic. He has taken classes over his lifetime in various colleges, community colleges and adult education programs, but never sought an art degree. He sculpts in alabaster and paints with acrylics. He has taken pottery and mold making courses; and sometimes replicates his sculptures by casting them in resin or concrete-like materials.
He takes conventional digital photos for local wine-related events--such as the Santa Barbara County Vintners' Association festivals; the Brander Bouillabaisse Festival; winery Open Houses and special events for wine personalities. This past year, his photos and digital giclées have been used with stories in over two dozen publications, including: Wine Enthusiast, Wine Country Living, 7x7 Magazine, Bel Air Magazine, , Wine & Dine, California Wine & Food, Wine Maker, 805 Living, and Patterson’s Beverage Journal—to support stories and adorn the cover. His photos of food, chefs and restaurants appeared weekly in the South Coast Beacon and he is now Chief Photographer for Wine & Dine--www.wineanddinesb.com
His digital paintings have been used for posters, postcards and brochures, as well as for web sites. He designed SIDEWAYS: the map, showing the locations the movie’s characters visited in discovering themselves—and Pinot Noir—in our local wine country. His art is currently in several winery tasting rooms.
